Maj, when my daughter was going through a tough time
in her life, she joined the Navy because she needed "structure". She did well while she was there, but the sexual harrassment (she was young and beautiful) was more than she could take.

I joined the USAF during a recession and I was middle class, and 22 y/o.
Even then we had a ot of young people joining because it was a way to get out. Many of them proved to be ont so useful, but it gave them a semi-structured environment and maybe some job skils.

Should prove interesting....
thanks for calling it to our attention...I would not have known about it otherwise most likely...

Maj, that is the reality for us on the outside
looking in, but still, for a few young kids, who see few options in life (lower class, uneducated, dreams of glory, desire to "get out of this place" - whereever they are at) joining the army can look good! Once they are there, they have to convince themselves that they did not make a mistake.

Azur, Paris is hard for me to write about as there are so many
conflicting emotions, bad business deals, related to these folks. I'm not wanting to finish the tale. Thanks for asking.

Do you know when we may be able
to see this in Europe?

Any honest tape from the combatant's view will be anti-war.

It's personally boring, disempowering, disappointing, sometimes dangerous, and occasionally furnishing molents of teamwork and unity of purpose not found in common civilian life.

The point of the whole thing (American militarism) is to prevent everyone from having to experience it by having a few experience it. But we use it now to make sure we pay less at the gas pump and try to keep bad people from crashing airliners onto us.

I'll keep it in mind.

I didn't even know about this. Thanks for the heads up!

We often seek neat endings but in reality
they don't exist. This sounds like a fascinating glimpse. It will be interesting to see the individual opinions and biases which come through in the footage and the editing I guess.

So what about the next part of your Parisian tale?
