congrats to zoke from a Brit
I support your comments about the need for US to look at amount of wasted energy in that country.  As a Brit who is inclined to support your country in a number of areas, I find it difficult to have a lot of sympathy when such figures as you quote, 4% of world population consuming 25% of energy, are bandied around.  The earth's resources are finite - which means simply they will run out one day.  Would it not make more sense to devote time, energy and money to conserving them rather than squandering them  in such a reckless way.  Even Americans will suffer thirst and hunger if more attenttion is not paid to conservation and sensible husbanding of global resources than is happening at present.  It may be liquid gold but it is undrinkable.

Agreed
We need to cut back. All of us.  It seems like most people could cut their personal consumption by 25-50% with better planning.  Carpool, take half the trips to the grocery, stay home every other weekend, walk, ride a bike?  We overlook lots of potential opportunities to save a little here and there...but if everyone did a little, we could make a huge difference.
