Whacky, I love the sound of mourning doves.
I don't hear them so much here in Michigan, but when I go home to California where my parents live in the country I always hear them.
But I did not know they had squeaky wings!!!

I have two mourning doves outside just now, with some red-winged blackbirds and a couple of woodpeckers. People in this area call them morning doves, instead of mourning doves.

Glad it wasn't Squeaky Beak Syndrome. I have never heard of that bird.

No -
but birds with squeaky wings would send me running indoors - that's just freaky.

I learned something here, Whacky
I liove bird calls and watching birds and I'm familiar with mourning doves but I've never heard of squeaky wings. Do you have any idea why they squeak?

seen 'em, heard 'em but never heard them take off. what a peculiar
trait.
re: bo's dilemma. when the salmon were spawning in the river last summer, one of my walking dogs, a beagle/border collie X (yes, i know!) had absolute coniptions (sp?) trying to race up and down the river catching them.

I was just getting ready to tell you that's what they were. Their plaintive cooing is comforting in the late afternoon. They do sound as if they were squeaking when they take flight.

Yes, I have. They're little pigeons and they take up residence almost anywhere. Their call is annoying, but I'm told, they're delicious!
