kooka,
There are many differences among the parties but the way they are alike is in the worst way possible. They take money from special interests and then are beholden to them. That makes it bad for all of us.

And I agree that there needs to be a focus on the alternative power sources.
But do you think that either the republicans or the democrats are going to push for big investments there?
I know you are still under the illusion that the two parties are actually completely opposites, but the bottom line is neither party really case about what is right and are more concerned with just getting power and making money for their own groups. And both parties gain from the oil companies.
As long as people still try to claim that the democrats and the republicans are truly two parties and that one is one side and the other is on the other, then we will get no where. Both parties are really worthless at his point and only serve to cause conflict. We need to get more parties in there and start really voting for people who will be able to make changes because they are not in debt to some corporation or Big Business.

kooka,
You don't have to worry about me losing all my money with oil and gas because that would mean I would ride it out until the bottom fell out. My wife and I pull money out a little at a time depending on stock prices and such. We have a plan. I know we give up some money by being as conservative as we are, but in the end we will be fine.
We should have been using resources to plan on using alternative fuels for many years. This was a long time before the Republicans came to power. We use solar power here at my house. We can't run the air conditioner or the dryer yet, but those days will come. Tax breaks should have been given long ago for energies such as this.
We also invest in the Texas Wind Power Project although that has been slow, in my estimation, to get off the ground.
I think I could fix our energy problems in a short time if given the chance. I have given us a bit leg up in our personal journey. Neither side wants to hear any of that. We can't do anything about the price of oil. OPEC has that game to themselves. We have to invest in wind, solar, hyrdo, and technolgies such as this to get a leg up on the world. Until we do that we will pay ever higher prices for our gas.

I'm a little confused
Are you claiming the Republicans have a plan to fix this?
I have yet to hear them work on one. In fact I have yet to see any sign of any plans from either side.
The Bush backers are too busy worrying about ‘saving’ all these third world countries that are screwed up because we got involved with the to begin with. I have yet o see the Republicans in power have any kind of palm to fix the problems here at home. And if they could actually plan something, then we would never have gone into Iraq as we did.
So the Democrats might not have any real plans. Neither side does. More and more the Democrats are no different than the Republicans and in the end neither group is really concerned about fixing this country’s problems.
So why don’t you quit you moaning and whining and come up with some solutions. I have already pointed out what the gas companies should do if they wish to help to build up the economy and get it healthy again (Although you are delusional and do not see the truth of where things are headed). Of course you also admit that you are making money off of these high prices since the stocks are going up. What is going to happen when the bottom falls out of the economy and you end up loosing all your money because your stocks become worthless and it is all due to gas companies not looking at the big picture?
