Wars are won by generals!
There is an old saying that goes something like this: Soldiers fight wars and generals are heroes! I think the proper term is kings instead of generals, but we can all get the drift.

The US military takes its orders from the civilian side of the government, and Mr Rumsfeld is the top dog on that side of the fence. As for character and class? That remains to be seen, however, at this point he looks like a fool and an incompetent jerk. If the person in charge doesn't know what is going on with the personnel under his/her command, then they have no right being the person in charge, and when the cost of errors is dead and maimed kids, then it is ever more important that they know what is going on. Don't forget, Iraq was not engaged in civil war before we showed up. While I certainly don't wish to defend Saddam Hussien, he had managed to keep some form of control on a population that is split along religious lines and has been at each others throats for over 1300 years.

I bid you peace and understanding. Arley White

Well, I think Mr. Rumsfeld has plenty of character and class.
Some of our generals are lacking in both.
