Silver,
I do believe that's good advice and I don't think I'll ever stop editing it!

Good for you, word!
Yay!  What an accomplishment.  What you need to do now is put your baby aside and ignore it for a while.  do something else.  Read.  Blog.  Work on something to refresh your mind.  In a few weeks, go back to your book and start revising.  You'll see it in a clearer light.  And I don't think you will ever be done editing it.  Never in a million years.  Rewrite, revise, polish it up and send it off.  And try not to suffer empty nest syndrome!

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement...
You are all wonderful.  This writing business can be oh so trying as Lokman has shown. I've also started a second novel, without having finished editing the first. As usual, I've set about doing too much. I think I need to be saved from myself!

In the same boat

First off Congratulations!

I know the feeling.  I cried the entire afternoon after I had written The End.  Now, though, I am struggling with rewriting the book.  I started out calling it revising, but it is turning into an entirely different project with a different focus.  Rip out here, add there.  I just hope that I can remember to continue concentrating, since I'm itching to move onto the second novel in my series.

Congratulations!

Good for you! I know how hard it is to get from beginning to end (I'm stuck somewhere in the middle of two books!)  But I feel like it's easier to rewrite than to get the darn first draft done!

In one of your earlier posts you mentioned trimming words, and that's soooo important. Was it Stephen King who said that when you think you're done, cut out 10 percent? Maybe it was Hemingway. I don't know. Whatever, just make sure you get rid of the dreaded -ly words!!  And keep reading writing magazines and books.  Best wishes for your future writing!

Congratulations!
That's very cool...I wish you good fortune in finding a publisher! I think this is a BIG difference between blogging here and elsewhere. You are much more likely to run across "serious" writers here, and the quality of their "blowing off steam"  writing is a better measure than the free site blogging...

Wow word.smith!!!!!!!!
Good for you!!!!!!!!!  And yes...I totally agree....rewriting is much harder than the first draft!!!  I've just subscribed for an ongoing fiction writing course and we post 3500 words a week of our novels and are critiqued by the instructor as well as other classmates.  It's great so far!
