Whacky,
Good luck with that one. I didn't know the things were so darn fragile. :)

I'm not sure, but my oldest boy scratched the hell out of one of my favorite cd's, and I got really angry. It seems so silly now.

Hey, Whacky!!
How the hell are ya? Well, IMO, I've used those "scratch" removal kits you can buy at Radio Shack and other places of like. They really work. Now, as far as that broken "almost in half" DVD, not too sure 'bout dat one!

Oops...
Should be "hundreths of a thousandth, or .00001inch."

Whacky...
Your analogy that a record and a DVD are similar is correct. CDs and DVDs also have the electronic equivalent of the grooves that the old LPs used. Only these "tracks" are so tiny, hundreds of a thousandth of an inch wide, the probability of getting them correctly aligned is nil. Plus the crack that comes around would throw the reading head into a frenzy each time it passed by. So, say goodbye to your old friend and score a new one on E-bay or something.

I think you need to replace it-
