If that is ture, then why was it needed for Mary to be a virgin in order to produce a child who was free of sin?

there is nothing unpure about sex

have you  not read the songs of Solomon?

However, I do believe it should be in the right context.

I believe that sharing your body with anyone ties your soul to them.  This is why happily married people still dream of old lovers..... If I had to do it over again... I would like to think I would have abstained until marriage.

kooka_lives - if there is one area of human development where religion has

acted as an impediment, it is in the area of sexuality.

With the catholics leading the way in denying human realities. The concept of virgin conception is nothing more than ancient man's ignorance surviving until today. Those insistent on maintaining the belief that the mother of Jesus somehow became impregnated by some other means than the how the rest of us were conceived, know little of two important points. Primitive man did not fully comprehend that the female contained the egg and the male the seed of human life. There are countless ancient references to this fact. It was believed for centuries that the female merely played host to the combined seed and egg of the male. Certainly believed as how it worked during the time period that the legend of the messiah was manufactured. The other important aspect is how a woman, once losing her virginity was viewed by the paternal societies of the time.  She was viewed as "soiled" whether the sex act was in the line of marital duties or not.  It's little wonder that while fabricating the story of the birth of the son of God, primitive man had to include something so ludicrous as virgin conception. Something as incredibly lame as this concocted story has been at the forefront of certain religions while mankind has come to terms in understanding his sexuality? No wonder our societies are laden with so many unnessecary taboos.

says some about sex.

in fact some Eastern Religions give us many sexual positions

see, we are talking about certain Western religions vs. various others.

much sexual stricture is a recent development.

and there is nothing in scripture saying marriage has to be between one man and one woman.
