Oh, I remember Evertt Dirksen....even though he was from Illinois, he was one of the last dinosaurs of the New England Liberal Republican establishment that we threw out beginning with the Goldwater campaign.....yep, Conservatives took a severe beating there...but it was worth the loss to take over the party and cleanse it of the gutless wimps who were thankful to the decades of Democratic rule in the Senate....."Why they gave us lowly Republicans keys to the washroom."
They're balls were smaller than even those of our current Senate leadership now........

that was because of conservative leanings of the 1800's and early 1900's that led to the Great Depression.
remember the Great Depression?
It was liberal ideas of another great Republican, Theodore Roosevelt, that led us out of that (embraced by his cousin FDR).
the move to the right has been fueled mainly by lying and misrepresenting rhetoric.
you call your opponent names instead of engaging in civil discourse and you seem to win.
