Maj, Yep - sometimes I do walk around
"smilingly half schnozzled" (I love that image - it is soooo me!)

Blanche I'd love to hear more about your Russian experience.
From what the Estonians tell me, they'd just like to put all those horrible years behind them and not think about it. And yes, it was a great opportunity for me, helps to keep my job interesting.

Cynthia,
I have to come back and catch up on the beginning of your trip to Estonia. What a trip of a lifetime to get to go on for a film festival. I've been to the Soviet Union twice: but it's been a long while and I"ll be so much has changed. I got to help work on a photography exhibit exchange in 89 with a group and went over and stayed with a Tass journalist in Uzbekistan. What culture shock.
BTW, if you meet a cameraman named Veiko in Tallinn, tell him Blanche said hi!

Not likely. You walk around smilingly half schnozzled?
Just kidding, although I had an aunt who worked for MGM who allegedly started her workday with a pint of gin then went on to supervise part of their mammoth editing/cutting shops.
(After the last five years I hardly recognize myself!).

Azur, you were right, and I do regret not seeing more of Tartu,
but I got a good dose of the landscape across the country in the 2 1/2 hour bus ride to the airport.

Maj, You really do know me!
I'm sure we would recognize each other if we accidently met on a street somewhere.

I like your line "I was suddenly tired".
I have this picture of you drinking half pints of good beer all evening in this cavernous hall-cum-refreshment area and suddenly realizing you're contentedly half-schnozzled.
I know that's not right, but...

Cynthia, I have just caught up with your Estonian journey
Sounds like it was an fascinating if tiring time. I always try to allow a little extra time at events for sightseeing as it is maddening to travel so far and not to get a look at the place beyond the venue.

TAPS. the only times I've been mugged and left in the condition you
described, was here in the good old USA. Once was in broad daylight in downtown Boston.

Reading this post makes my memory fly back to the time that my passport, credit cards, drivers license, etc. were lifted by a pickpocket in Madrid and I was literally left holding the bag and wondering what to do next. I survived and learned to be more careful and less trusting.
