- Go to Retired General Condemns Calls by Retired Generals for Rumsfeld
Yikes!
Is it just my computer, or is anyone else seeing a smorgasbord of fonts on this page?
Starting at the bottom: Scoop, of course there are consequences for publicly criticizing your superiors. You know that from your own service. General Myers was saying that leaders are to speak out, but to do so where it is appropriate to do so. What the six malcontents are doing is not appropriate, for a host of reasons including encouraging the enemy and making the civilian government accountable to the military.
Glenn, glad to have you back.
We miss you during your breaks from the action. Still playing the race card for all it's worth, I see. You do raise an interesting point about support logistics, though. I've not heard that raised anywhere else, and I'd like to what someone who actually knows what he's talking about would have to say on that. As for me, I remember the Red Ball Express that kept the hundreds of thousands of troops in France supplied after the Normandy invasion, so 700,000 in Iraq should be feasible as well. Speaking of book deals - I wonder how many of the six are working on books as well?
Scoop again, I don't doubt others will pipe up as well. But those who are speaking out now after supporting the war strategy as Batiste is on record as having done sound just as stupid as you say Myers would should he join the six. (And again - six out of how many?) And, with all respect to your service, watch the "fly boy" bit - you have a proud Air Force parent on this end.
Xenox, see my initial comment to Scoop. And I've seen that google search you recommend. Truly the ultimate in authoritative, knowledgeable, intelligent and substantive debate. Someone had a lot of fun creating that, and the joke is wearing out.
On your second comment, very eloquently put. And indeed I speak out against evil - against the evil of terrorism and of support for and funding of terrorism; against the evil of genocide; against the evil of tyranny; against the evil of rape rooms and torture chambers, of children tortured in front of their parents; against the evil of wanting to develop WMDs and make them available to madmen. The question seems to be what the evil is. To you, it's a President who has the gonads to stand up for our defense. To the six generals, it's that their egos were offended. Again - there are appropriate ways to speak out, and there are inappropriate ways.
Scoop again, my bad.
Correction made and noted with thanks. (Gee, glenn and Xenox, why didn't you guys catch that one?)
Glenn once again, thank you for summarizing so succinctly the warped perspective I identified in the last comment to Xenox.
And, no, Xenox, I did not go to Google yet.

the other thing, mr darkness purveyor
we come to the question -- and I ask you this?
if evil pervades, which would be more right
to speak out?
or to be quiet.
looks like you speak out.
so if you have a problem with those generals speaking out
then why should you speak out?

Here is another thing to think about
Do you know how stupid it would look for General Myers, who was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Iraq invasion or General Tommy Franks, who was Commander and Chief of Central Command and led the Invasion of Iraq, to come out and say anything bad about Rumsfeld? They would look like idiots. People would question them on how stupid they are if they said anything about how Rumsfeld ran the invasion and war. They were the two top dogs.
Mark my words you will see more officers speak up. This war is a disaster. Our troops are performing the best they can in ever changing conditions. Bush and Rumsfeld bit off more then they realized.

WriterofLight,
Gen. Meyers still has to wait on his "book" deal! Now all of sudden 700 thousand troops in Iraq is a Police State?? He coulds not even be honest and admit that logistically Halliburton could not support that number of troops on a battlefield! That America's military has a "bomb and run" doctrine! That requires fewer troops on the ground!
Now the matter of Iran presents a bigger concern for you "War Bigots"! Condi Rice will not be able to defend Bush Inc. esculating their "war" against the Brown Race!

And if you think a military general, who is still on active duty,
makes a comment about Rumsfeld, and nothing will happen to them, I will sell you a bridge in Brooklyn. Just look at what happened to Shinseki, he was fired. Meyers is a fly boy all the other generals have combat experience. Kind of weird that six would speak out and I bet we hear more.
