Smartdog...
I get ideas all day at work, but usually forget them. I spend all day thinking about my humor post, trying to remember it, so when I got home, it was pretty much worked out.

All my writing goes on in my head. The hard part is getting it out :). Listening to music allows me to 'freestyle' my way through poetry.

When Mark Twain was asked the same question, he replied:
"I start at the beginning, and then work from there."
"Happy Easter (where applicable)"

I tend to launch straight in too, however
very often it becomes clear that I should plan. I went to a screenwriting workshop last year and I learned the principle of one-liners. Where you sketch out the plot with a page of one liners summing up the main points in the plot. It is a great technique.
