Georgia, thank you! That's what makes it all worthwhile for us.
Your students love seeing you outside the classroom. They need that attention in order to feel empowered in the classroom. I mean they need to know that you understand how they have many different talents. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Oh, Wow!
What a beautiful, heartfelt, and sincere post this is! I wish you would send it to the Des Moines Register as an op-ed piece. If they had any guts at all, they'd publish it in a heartbeat. Really, Kingmi. Send it.
We had a huge rally here in Atlanta - over 10,000 people. I totally agree with you, and your closing lines say it all.
The story about your student really touched my heart. It's selfish of me to digress from your story, but I just had a similar experience with some of my students this evening. I went to the boys' baseball team's playoff game this evening. It's the first game of any kind I've attended in over a year. One of the boys who was pitching came over to the fence during the break and looked at all of the teachers sitting in the bleachers and said "I just want to say that I'm going to do my best with all of my favorite teachers here." He was so pleased. I'll go to their next and final game, and have resolved to start attending our sports games next year. I'm so sorry for all the time I've missed and really had no idea what our attendance means to them. I'm so glad you were able to touch your student's heart like you did with your comment. You're fabulous!
