Sannhet.....

I only wish more people would think like this.  I have been an activist all my life and do believe one person can make a difference.  I always refer to  Ghandi's words......“Be the change you want to see in the world.” If we can change ourselves, we can change the world.. Unfortunately, we live in a society with apathy is predominant.....I am still waiting for the change! Great post Sannhet!

i think i just figured out why it really is better to give than to receive
although, i don't want to knock receiving - it may be as important as giving - for example, if i try to give someone something that i know they need, and they don't receive it, they are witholding the opportunity to benefit from themselves, as well as depriving the giver, the joy in giving.

I used to be a very giving, very generous person - but i gave unjudiciously. As a result, I was taken advantage of time, and again.

In those days, I came to the conclusion that giving is just stupid. Thereafter, I definitely became much more stingy.

Mostly because I had nothing left to give, and I needed lots of time to heal, and gather my resources again.

Now the same old 'takers' with different faces arrive at my door. I recognise them now. I no longer feel responsible for satisfying them.

But I conclude that it is better to give than to recieve, because the person who gives (judiciously) is rich indeed - and if the giving actually diminishes suffering, and brings true benefit - then we are all the richer for it.

On the other hand, none of us can truly be in a position to give of our bounty, until we have received it...
