I understand
In my one blog I just (opinion) I just told a story of how we had a thunderstorm here, and how suddenly this house which is only about 12 years old, got 5 leaks. Yep, and two are through those little lights in the ceiling, so now the roofing people have to come in. Everytime this happens the mains trip. Winter is starting here and we get thunderstorms now, frequently, not good news. I hope you are well otherwise and really enjoy reading your blog. Take good care. Be back soon, V. (hope you don't mind, but I added you to my favorites I think it was?)

what a mess.

Wo, Symphony,
What a load of crap to have to deal with.  I'm glad my landlord is pretty responsive to maintaining the basic structure of the building, even if they are getting less choosy about renting to partiers and huge groups in one apartment.  They're starting to beat up the hallway, but otherwise, I think they'd take care of any water damage.  I hope you get some relief and some repair, get "medieval" on their butts if you have to and raise a ruckus!

Hi Symph,

I think you should contact the local Citizen's Advice Bureau. Your landlord is responsible for maintaining the property and it sounds like he only does what's necessary to tide you over. Which isn't good enough. The CAB may be able to offer you some legal advice and put some lawyer's pressure onto the landlord.

Hope you get through it.

Dave.

Symphony

Good grief....  There's got to be some way to get noticed...

Start withholding about 50% of your rent money.  That'll get their attention.  Then you could use that money to save for a new washing machine.   Here's a thought (I'm serious):  For about $90 you can buy a self-supporting dome tent for your son's room.  He'd love the "camping out" thing and it would keep him dry for the time being.  I used to do that when my nephews came to visit.   Pitch a tent in my living room.  Hope it's all looking up soon, Symphony....

Can't you get a lawyer and sue or take them to small claims court or
something?  I just can't imagine that you aren't allowed any recourse.  This is horrible!

Damn Girl you are having a hard time, you do need an escape. (other blog)

How do you find time to write at all?  Take some of your obvious well versed talents and write a letter or three to local newspapers, local TV stations ( Ya Brits got TV  don't ya lassy? ) _lol  - and drop a:  'To whom it may concern' across the the desks of a few of those parlimentary types you have over there.  You know, funny white powdery wigs, they still do that right, or is that only in Picadilly Circus (no the West End, right?)

Once again, my arms streched wide, wish you could reach my shoulder to either cry or lean on. (your choice, I'm easy)    Bill

PS - I just printed my member profile page telling me I just made my first 2 cents as a writer!    BP

I lived in an apartment once that had that happen in the living room.   It was a drag.   I had seven pans collecting water.   Problem was that they said they couldn't fix it until it dried out and it kept raining for a long time.

Maybe you should stop decorating and start planning on moving. It is risky to use plastic to catch the water because the weight/ leakage will eventually cause the ceiling to drop. It happened to my old ceiling. :(

Symphony, that sounds horrible... I'd be calling whatever part of your government protects renters from slumlords... we have laws here where we Americans  threaten to sue over just about anything...

Also, do mention to your doctor that your son's room has a problem with dampness. It may be a mold preoblem causing his illnesses! Anything that has been that wet that often will be growing something and some people are very sensitive to it...

Good luck, you poor thing!

What a nightmare. Make a list and have it ready to read out to them on the phone (and put your address etc and the  date on a copy and hand it in or send it to then. Do this so that you forget nothing.  Then call them every day, every hour if necessary.. Stay polite and rational but do not give up until they respond. Maybe you should also contact the group which supervises the housing too and ask what your options are and let them know that is in intolerable.
