You are a fun and smart lady. I can figure out why a traditional class does not befit you.

(Your cat is real cute!)

thank you for that information!  I will keep it out of Mister Cat's reach- I didn't know that.

Good morning, Nanaroo. I love the lily-of-the-valley planat...what a lovely
sign of spring it is! They are so beautiful massed in a garden. I'm so glad Mr. Cat ( he is so adorable, btw) was more interested in his food. Lily-of-the-valley is a very poisonous plant. The ASPCA Poison Control Center lists this plant as one that is very toxic to animals.

My Mom always had Lily of the Valley on the north side of her house.   They were very important to her and she loved to have a tiny vase of them on the breakfast table.

Hi to you too-- I've been enjoying reading your stuff!  I bet you are a fire sign- (?)  they always have trouble growing plants...

Hi, Nanaroo,
I really like lilies.  I could never grow anything, though.  A couple of days in my house, and it's done for.  :)

You are right, Nanaroo, and I can kind of remember how sweet and light it smelled.  It's a very good scent for a young girl.  I love  your writing. It brings back that scent.

Nanaroo,
I remember having a bottle of that scent when I was little, it had a fancy french name, which I can't quite reemember, but it smelled so nice.  There were tadpoles and frogs in a little pond on my grandparent's property that I would go and try to catch in a coffee can.  I had better luck with the tadpoles, than the frogs!  This takes me right back, thank you, I love this.

Nan--- Some teachers just have no sense of humor! By the way, I actually
did set the science lab on fire during an experiment. The other kids never believed that it truly was an accident. It was, though. Really. I mean it.

Wow!  Chief Bemidji's granddaughter!  Thanks for that comment- Bemidji is so nostalgic for me...

Reminds me of my grandfather's neighbors, Julius and Adelaide. They lived in an enchanted house. They kept colored water in whiskey bottles in the windows, and a bowl with a black fish swimming around in it, and all sorts of exotic plants. And outdoors were lily of the valley and ladyslipper plants. And garter snakes. I had to grow up to realize they lived in a two room shack with smoky walls. Adelaide was his second wife He had been married to Chief Bemidji's granddaughter. He was a lazy genius and she was an ambitious woman so that didn't work out. Makes me realize that these memories become history and we don't know the significance at the time.

wow, that would have really freaked me out!  Does anyone have the experience of driving in the summer and suddenly driving on a road filled with frogs?  Squish Squish!

hi Nan-
I loved your post - it stired up memories of my 8th grade frog experiment.  I was "chosen" to clean the tank full of frogs in the back room and one did an ALIEN on me! THat's right, grabbed it's stomach, hopped all over the place, fell on his back and  his belly split open.  No little razor tooth creature emerged, but it freaked me out.  Screaming time!

Nanaroo.....Yes....I remember them, too....
Boy, that was a lovely post about your childhood and the frogs that captivated your playtime outdoors. The sweet smell of the lily of the valley.....we, too, had them growing around the sides of our garage in the backyard. They were such delicate and cute plants. I had a friend who wore some kind of Lily of the Valley perfume. It was a pretty scent.
