Nans
I never even jumped into the water until I was past 30. I was a chicken diver, until one day I saw my tiny l'il daughter Neeny, climb up to the high diving board in a Holiday Inn, she was just 5 at the time.
My oldest son said, "Hey dad, look up at Neeners" and before I could have the heart attack, she dropped all the way down into that pool.
She bobbed up, huge grin, big brown eyes wide open but squinting, "Dad, dad, I did it why don't you dad, Why eh dad?"
So I climbed out and jumped in off the side, trying to look nonchalant of course,
saying it was too high for me to climb up. My l'il kid made me do it. lol

yes, and it seems that has been a life theme for me, of sorts! Thank you for recognizing that.

One can get over one's fears, not succumb to them. That's the message I get

thank you- it was interesting to look back on this experience and compare it to other things I've learned that started out fearful but when I got over the fear, I loved it--

I can remember jumping in the lake in March and April. I guess it's somewhat comparable to your June in Minnesota. In Louisiana, it gets in the 90's in April!

Y'know...
The first thing I said to myself as I read was, "Wait a second here! A lake in June....in Minnesota! She's gotta be nuts!"
Did you always go to the same lake?

I still remember that suit- it was navy and white and made out of a really stiff material.

thank you! I'm glad I wasn't the only dive-shy person on those cold lakes! When you think about it, diving head first into cold, dark water doesn't seem like such a smart thing to do.

Cool Pic!
I remember the cold lake. Even in the height of summer the great ones are cold. And I have similar memories of being forced to dive in....can't I just jump!!! Nicely visualized.

Nana, I have tried very, very hard not to pass my phobias on to my kids
and so far it is working, they love the water, in fact my two younger ones are going to be on a swim team this year, my 10 year old is part fish, I swear it! Good thing we have a cabin at a lake, when they aren't in the pool in town they are in the lake at the cabin, in the warm weather of course!

I know quite a few people who are afraid of water.. for me, it is my element, I feel at home in it, like a dolphin!

Nanaroo,
Looks like the swimmer is having second thoughts. Reminds me of my thoughts about learning to swim as a kid. :)

I took swimming lessons when I was younger, but don't remember what I learned. LOL....could it be I had a huge crush on my teacher? LOL
