Comments on Top 100

Rankings are relative, plus other comments.

1. Blogs and posts which generate MORE hits get rated higher than others. Other blogs may generate a lot of hits, but just not as much as many. Affected by interactions between bloggers and "favorites lists" as much as anything else besides just liking or not liking something at first glance.

2. You find it hard to believe "adult" blogs aren't in the top 100; I would find it hard to believe that one would be, at least for any length of time, given the "culture" (so-called) at BN and the extra step needed to view them.

3. It would take more than just three or four, or twenty or thirty,  people mutually hitting one anothers' blogs to boost one another into the top 100.

4. Screw ratings! Write what you want, post provocative comments like this, interact with others, and if people like what they try, the ratings will come.

(PS: "tea party"...pretty good, pretty good. Torqued me off pretty good.)

MA ranking
If you look at the rank of the top MA blog -- you can do this by viewing the writer's profile page -- you'll notice that it's in the #100-#200 range, so it wouldn't be surprising if it showed up in the Top 100 in the future.

Re: top 100 and MA...

I'm sure you are right; as management usually is.  But, it stretches credulity to think that of 100 top blogs in the past seven days, not one, not even one, comes from the MA category. What would be the odds of that  happening?

As for something to separate the coffee klatch Crabbies and Chrises from those who might one day hope to actually sell, I would have to give that some thought.  Surely there is a place for both, but it seems that the latter is being overrun by the former.

Maybe it just me.

Yes

Yes, the ranking system includes all blogs in Mature Audiences. Several MA blogs have appeared in the Top 100 in the past. To view the newest posts in MA, go to the MA page and click "sort by date".

The current guidelines for MA are included in the Terms of Use.

Regarding "serious writers", we are considering ways to allow writers to form groups with similar interests, which may be helpful. We would appreciate any additional feedback you have on this issue.
