Nanaroo,
I can understand where you're coming from. There are some ups to apartment living, and the ups to home ownership, too. I'm kind of like your sister, in that I like my guests to be comfortable in a warm, inviting, yet personal-as-possible space. I'm glad you're enjoying your visit. Hope you continue to get out more. :)

Nanaroo
I used to live by myself in an apartment. I kept it spotless and had all the time in the world to indulge myself in whatever I wanted to do. I was miserable, frankly.
Now, I have to clean constantly, wipe bottoms, bathe dogs, fix things, change diapers, and pick up poo. I couldn't be happier!

Nanaroo.....The fridge stocked inside sounds great....
like Chardonay, etc. And the Pier 1...lovely....Yes, simplifying as we get older sounds like a sound thing, I can understand about the nice, neat apartment with fewer worries. Good post that makes sense.

Nanaroo,
Gee, and I was just longing to own my own home: equity, no neighbors sharing walls with the screaming kid next door, runnning around naked (well, not me, but MG), and turning up the stereo and dancing without that whining neighbor downstairs. Apartment living ain't all that, but I hear you.

I think that conundrum is technically referred to as ...
the "chicken or the egg" syndrome. This quote from Brian Tracy (sort of) addresses the issue and (kind of) answers the question:
"You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you."

I completely understand!!!
You just named a few of the reasons why I'm selling my house....I need a simpler, gentler lifestyle....fresh flowers on a marble countertop, grapes and cheese in the frig, no property taxes or fences to mend.
Moving on isnt easy though.
I hope you had a great visit--
