I'm able to catch the matinees occasionally, BlackPearl ...

but my busy schedule makes it difficult.  Especially if I want someone else (friends, family, boyfriend) to go with me.

Yes, Jazwolf ...
those prices they charge sure are reasonable.

M.P.O,
I do the matinees, on my days off, and when kids are likely to be in school.  Plus, they're cheaper, and at least you get to see the movie without so many distractions.  :)

MPO--- I go to the movies because of the bargain prices on pop corn
and soft drinks.

3 more for this movie post. Well done.

Needless to say, I don't speak Spanish.

I suppose either one could work

"MY SUITCASE IS STUFFED?"

You'll have to help me out here.  LOL

*Pondering your "Deep Thought" for today.

Say, that just might work!  I've been looking for a dramatic break from the monotonous, ordinary existence that suddenly surrounded my life about 2 years ago.  LOL!

In fact, in one of my posts I included a link that linked right back to that very same post.

May be difficult to achieve though.  With the continental divide and all.

Yeah, the reality, Cesium ...

is there's no way to avoid them.  I've tried everything.

Another problem I have are my big feet (at least for a girl) which repeatedly get trounced when people pass by.

MPO,

It is pretty borderline isn't it?  Well, see, that's why I needed the links.  I have been journeying in space for 8-10 days now.  I put a bookmark to the permalink of your comment, though.  I want to see the posts you were talking about in your comment.

A link to the link to the links.  Aren't links amazing?  Link right back to where you got lost and POOF!  Lost again.

Maybe I should go to Mexico.  I think I'm going nuts here.

270x in one year.

Dear madame.. That is a big WOW, 270 movies in a year.

Maybe in one good movie we go as a group and act like the noisy kids and I will buy all the popcorn.

how is that?

Prof.

Oh I hate the pee-ers
Sometimes I try to sit in the middle so they can go to the ends of the row to exit. But sometimes that doesn't work and I have the person who gets up from one end of the row to cross in front of me to go to the restroom.

I think it's on the fence (as far as qualifying), Jack.

posted by Mademoiselle on March 28, 2006 at 11:10 PM | link to this | reply

Prof ...

would you believe I visited the theater over 270 times in one year?

Because I used to be a film critic.  However, those were mostly private screenings and therefore not open to the general public.

posted by Mademoiselle on March 28, 2006 at 11:09 PM | link to this | reply

MPO,
Thanks for those links.  I'll get by and check them out.  I've been missing a lot lately.  I fear I am always lost by a ''Missing Link.''  (does that qualify as a pun?  too forced?  Ida No.)

Going to the movies.

Dear Madame. Worst for me going to movies. Would you believe I went to movies here in Australia about 10 times only in 18 years. Because I have many things you mentioned. If I need to go like the LOTR, it's going to be Sunday first showing so there are no people.

Above all I wait for the DVD and enjoy it at home.

regards.. Prof

Thank you, Una ...

Up until the last couple years, theaters here never showed any commercials.  Then, all of a sudden, they started springing up.

Film critic Roger Ebert has even suggested a boycott.

posted by Mademoiselle on March 28, 2006 at 10:56 PM | link to this | reply

I really enjoyed this piece.

I hate the distractions at cinemas as well. So I will only go there at non-peak hours.

The commercial time here in HK is far shorter than 30 mins.

I love the way you cope by propping up your coat on the seat next to you. It's creative!

Okay! Some excitement here just now.

My cat jumped on my lap while I was sitting here, and I spilled coffee all over my pajamas.

So, I guess for the rest of the night I'll be blogging in my underwear.

Yeah, I don't think you'll be seeing that commercial in theaters any time soon, Darrkethoughts.

P.S. You really should try and splurge on a big screen plasma TV ... it's definitely worth it.

I changed the name about a week ago, Jack ...

I wrote a post about it and everything:

http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/LifeBlog/356595

Oh and, also, the "shallow thoughts" concept began here:

http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/LifeBlog/356941

I had so much fun doing them (and came up with so many in such a short time) that there will now be one every day for as long as I'm here.

Attending children's movies are the worst, Aaron ...
I swear one time, I was trying to catch the matinee of "Shrek 2" and, all of a sudden, an entire procession of the loudest, most disgusting little brats comes streaming in ... each one of them uglier than the last.

And now we interrupt our programming for a special word from our sponsors..

Check out our new HOME theater.  Big screen TV with nicely padded rocker-recliners and your very own remote contorl...surround sound...etc., etc.

Let's put that on at the theater!!

(I rarely see movies before they come out on DVD these days - even though I have a small screen tv. )

mpo,

When did you change the name of this blog?  It is different, isn't it?  Or am I losing my mind?

Well, theaters (theatres, if you prefer) are a royal pain.  The worst part, once you recover from the case price of a single scoop of popcorn and the six-pack price of one medium, carbonated waterpop, is the revolting people.  The only thing I enjoy about the audience is when the perfect wisecrack pops into my head and it gets a laugh from the whole crowd.  I never do one of those until the perfect one comes along, then I don't hand out any more.  Only the first quintessential crack is funny.  Others may be better, but if you do more than one, you're headed for trouble.

I particularly like your practical joke.  I have been considering it for some time.  I figured I could  get all set up in Mexico, then pay a few bucks to the local Chief of Police to make out a death certificate.  That way I can collect my own life insurance posing as my spouse, Jaqueline.  That would make for purchase of a nice seaside villa, a car or two, and some lovely housemaids.  If I keep a guest house for others on phase one of their ''Big Duckout,'' I'll probably become a multimillionaire.

I, like most people out of their teens,

can remember a day when movies only showed a few previews before the feature.  Then they started showing commercials for the movie's soundtrack before the picture.  Then, one fateful day, there were commercials for body spray before the movie.  I could have lined up all the theater managers in the country and shot them at that point.  Not only that, but prices of tickets and snacks have been going up at an annual inflation rate of about 30%.

And then there's the experience itself.  Most theaters are dirty, there's chewing gum and popcorn on the floor, and it seems the world's supply of small children are all in the theater.  I went to Freddy vs. Jason and there were some young brats crying their little heads off.  People should need a license to become parents.

And finally, the movies.  All the movies nominated for Best Picture, and almost all those nominated for major awards, were message pieces that few people actually watched.  If I want to see something that praises terrorism and bashes America, I'll watch CNN; I don't need to pay $7 to see Syriana or Paradise Now or V for Vendetta.  It seems most of the really good movies lately are animated (Ice Age, The Incredibles, and so on) or movies based on comic books or classic novels (X-Men, Spiderman, Lord of the Rings).  Even "The Matrix" - the closest recent thing to an innovative mind-blower that I can think of - was mostly taken from a short story.

I'd hop off this soapbox, but it's a long ways down.
