BlackPearl1- I actually left a few versions off the list
The ones found here all had there origins in England except the Geneva version. The Bishops 1,2,3, versions are actually references to 3 major efforts to "re-write" the bible which began under the rule of King Henry VIII or at least prior to King James II. These 3 are sometimes referred to by their authors names but that poses a problem for historians as many versions of the bible were published under an alias to avoid execution. For one extended period of this history, the same alias was used by different authors.

gomedome,
I've heard of the "Apocrypha", and I may have even heard about Webster's edit-- I'm not sure. It's been a while-- but I've not heard of so many other versions of the Good Book. Again, your post is quite educational and informative. Your post makes me want to explore these thoughts and do more research on biblical history. In my opinion, education is a good thing. Looking forward to reading and hopefully learning more.

Interesting post!
Have you ever noticed that bibles seem to be brand specific? What ever brand of Christianity one espouses to believe, you can find a bible that will keep you knee deep in ammunition for downgrading others who aren't believing the same way as you. (I use the word "you" rhetorically here.) One of my favorite quotes regarding the bible is this: "Even the devil can quote scripture to serve his purposes." I don't recall who said it in the first place, but I like it, and it seems to cover the bases quite well.
I bid you peace and understanding. Arley White
