Sorry, Billy. I've done my part for insect kind ...

and then some.

The "ring butt tree stink bug" will just have to fend for itself.

In certain situations it can be somewhat beneficial, Aaron.

Come on MPO...the ring butt tree stink bug needs your help!

I'm getting my checkbook out now
People have described me as a 'charity case' before, but I didn't realize that was a good thing.

Which reminds me ...

Please make all checks payable to:

That's good advice, Una ...
people certainly should verify the legitimacy of a charity, before sending them a single dime.

We need to be cautious
in donating our money. I had donated money to a wildlife foundation but then I kept receiving their correspondences, which is not so environmentally-friendly. I called them not to send me any mails except emails. They did as told. But I have stopped donating to them ever since.

get bent.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions

There's a lot of truth to this saying.  The intentions of communism were good; the results were over 100 million deaths worldwide.  The intentions of the crusaders were good; that didn't turn out so well either.  Good intentions don't turn a wrong into a right.  PETA may love animals, but I'd flush my money down the toilet before giving it to them.

Not that I'm blaming you, personally, for the deaths caused by communism or the crusades.  Everybody else who donated money to PETA shares the blame, too.

This is a different stream of humor writing.

Congratulations! You're the proud winner of 2 prizes. I hope this makes your day more cheerful. :)

No, Jazwolf ...

I meant the actual PETA.  Though, it's not like we attend their rallies or anything.

My mother merely supports (just about) any organization that "puts animals first".

She's funny that way.

Well, Aaron, their intentions are good.

That's the beauty of my writing, Ann ...

one never can be completely sure.

Although, I would have thought the photo might have cleared up any confusion (as to the "seriousness").

In fact, curiously enough, my mother actually liked this post.

MPO--- Loved your post. Sorry to hear about your family's PETA
affiliation. Unless, perchance, you were talking about People for the Eating of Tasty Animals? For the record, many on the right side of the aisle would consider me an "environmentalist whacko."

posted by Jazwolf on March 19, 2006 at 11:06 AM | link to this | reply

I like animals, too, but PETA?

There are such things as well-intentioned wackjobs, and PETA definitely fits the bill.  They equate KFC killing chickens with the holocaust, and spread graphic photographs of the two side-by-side to elementary school kids.

If one of them threw blood on me because I was eating fried chicken, or wearing fur or leather, or for any other reason - they would find themselves on the endangered species list.

Animals have personalities too. I thought this was a serious post.

Quoth me:

"Also, people might recall I myself do "preserve" several exotic insect/arachnid species right here in this very house."

Oh, and plus my cat, too.  Can't leave him out.

Um, actually, Moondawg ...

I totally agree with you.

This post is intended as humor/sarcasm/satire.  I was hoping the chimp photo would remove all doubt as to that fact.

In fact, we (my family) do donate to the WWF, as well as the Philadelphia Zoo, the Elmwood Park Zoo and the Bronx Zoo.  Not to mention, just about any other animal rights groups you can name ... even including PETA.

Also, people might recall I myself do "preserve" several exotic insect/arachnid species right here in this very house.

Perhaps, Prof, this post ...

was subconsciously influenced (somehow) by your "Monkey Mask" story.  Certainly, at the very least, the pararrels one could draw are rather eerie.

Of course, chimpanzees are apes not monkeys, but still ...

I appreciate your opinion
though I must totaly disagree with you on many counts. There are many recorded cases of animals that have saved humans. To diminish any part of our world diminishes us. There are many extinct species of creatures that possibly could have held answers to our own exsistense. Man does not realize it, or at least will not admit to it, but is placing our very planet on the indangered species list, through our actions and the disregard for the other living things we must share this planet with. I'm sure that the chimps behavior was something learned from man. Yet another example of our bad influence on the rest of the world. What makes man better than any other creature on this planet. We have a brain, but if we refuse to use it in a good and appropriate manner then we are of no use. If our only purpose is to destroy what is here then we need to be extinct and I could sure understand why no other creature would be willing to change that.

Absolutely not, Ann!
Nor, do I ever wear shoes or carry purses made from animals either.

posted by Mademoiselle on March 19, 2006 at 5:06 AM | link to this | reply

Actually, Jack ...
it saddens me that, unlike my grandparents, I will never get to see a real, live T-rex or pterodactyl in the flesh.

posted by Mademoiselle on March 19, 2006 at 5:03 AM | link to this | reply

This one frightens me.

Dear MPO, very few things or picutre frightens or disturbs me, but this chimp with a gun is something that can blow your mind away (literary).

In many wars, animals play a part and can kill people like elephants, horses and dogs, but this modern gun in the hands of a chimp is really beyond my imagination. How cruel could it get when you can train one to climb roofs and buildings and instruct it to start shooting.

Cheers to you Madame...  Prof.

mpo,

What's a Chimp doing with a Glock, fer crying out loud?  They're big enough to carry an AK on an M4.  Now even the Chimps are getting lazy.

I'm glad that species preservation bunch is pretty new.  I sure don't want some Brontosaurus coming around stepping on my car.  What's the matter with those people?

The irony, kingmi ...

is many of my readers will never even see it, because they'll mistakenly take the warning seriously.  This happened with my "bird flu" post, too (which, btw, was one of my very best):

Unfortunately, BirdCatcher ...

I do donate a great deal to the cause ... whether, I like it or not.

You see, my mother is about as major a proponent of our three local Zoos as there is.  The staff even all know her by name.

It's positively brutal.

posted by Mademoiselle on March 18, 2006 at 11:00 PM | link to this | reply

hmm

Okay well, I agree with your stance.

A Zoo’s ideal for saving a species from extinction is putting it behind bars.

I’d rather take the death penalty than spend my life in prison. So I wouldn’t donate money to the cause either.

Although I would help an animal without expecting it to help me later on : P
