Yes, Blanche, we Americans are great at assimilating, once you've made
the ethnic 'rite of passage' we seem to put immigrants through. I guess it's the natural order of things, to resist and oppose the 'new guy.' But it seems to work out in the end, except, of course, for the elitists, purists, and racists, who'll never acknowledge the beauty of the 'melting pot' that is America's greatest achievement.

You are so very right, BrightIrish. It is that unfailing self-deprecatory
sense of humor that make the Irish such a lovable bunch. Add to that a great sense of honor, love, courage, and compassion -- makes some
green with envy.
Especially the French.

Hello and I hope you've enjoyed the day. I think that the Irish sense of humor and the ability to laugh at themselves has served them well and enabled them to survive against much adversity. Have a great weekend!

LOL,
I can guess where the Nantucket ones go, that's an easy set-up for a joke. Another thing I love about the American Empyre is that most people don't know or care who they're "people" are. I hope it always stays that way.

S'All right, Blanche. The only two limericks I know are about men, one
Nantucket, the other from Bel Air. And about purebreds: all that inbreeding leads to madness. Just look at the Sun King and various royal lines of Europe -- looney as tunes from Syd Barrett. Show me a mutt unsure of his lineage and I'll show a typical American.

I wish I knew some good limericks, Saul,
but no...can't think of one. That's what I love about America: mutts. We're all mutts, and that's a good thing, because purebreds have too many problems.

And a tip 'o the hat to you as well, lass. I find myself a blood-mingling
of Dutch, Italian, and Cherokee. I'm sure there's more, but I like that mix. I'm afraid to look deeper for fear I may find I have a bit of French in me as well.

Saul, It isn't easy being green...
I've got Irish blood (mingled with Russian and a whole bunch of other stuff, a true American mutt), but yep, the Irish are a tough bunch. Happy St. Patrick's Day!
