After the fall of Russian Communism, our ally in Iraq, Saddam Husein
felt less threatened, more empowered. We chose Husein because he was an enemy of Iran, a Shiite nation, but Husein had a mind of his own and invaded Quwait. Now that Russia was no longer the issue because they were bankrupt and could no longer support their own allies, we felt secure enough to attack Hussein, twice.
We have a new set of dominos that have and continue to fall as the world adjusts to the fall of Russian Communism. All Russia's clients were weakened, its enemies strengthened and overconfident. Yugoslavia and Afghanistan, the Sudan and others such as Al Queda made and are making adjustments to their strategies.
As we see now that the Shiites, which were suppressed and otherwise occupied during Saddam Hussein's reign, are now flexing their muscles ever more powerfully, Americans had better pay more attention to what is true NOW rather than continously reacting to the past, if we are also to continue to prosper "under God."
