The Last...
...airline meal I had, they should have paid me to eat it!

I'm not sure about 'soaring fuel prices', though. I don't know how it works in the States but here, aircraft fuel is sold to the airlines tax-free (whereas about 80% of what the driver pays at the pump is tax!). This is effectively a massive government subsidy for the airline industry. As flying is also the most fuel-hungry and environmentally damaging way to travel, (measured in carbon emissions per passenger mile) then such a subsidy makes no sense whatsoever.

Tis a weird world we've created, for sure.

I also noticed we board by "Zones" now instead of last in first and first out first.. I wasn't upset about the meals, but if they quit serving booze this will be one pissed off woman... and yes I would pay more for the isle depending upon the duration of the flight. If I don't I always get stuck between two people who want to talk the whole trip or smell of cheap perfume..With the isle seat I can get up a lot easier!

The irony is that airlines are going to charge more to
people sitting in the emergency exit.  After all, aren't THEY the ones who ask whether you're willing to assist in an emergency evacuation????  There's potentially an increased responsibility for anyone sitting in that row, which makes me think that those people should get a discount!

I Use Alternate Modes of Travel Also
I usually will pay for added convenience!

Corbin Dallas...I gave up air travel a couple of years ago, but now, if for emergency reasons, I'd board a plane, take my own lunch, a good book, and sit anywhere.
