As hard as it is difficult to know...
who is who on the net, it is quite the same problem in real life...however it is easier to figure out when you have a person in front of you whose behavior you can study more easily....

The only thing we don't know with internet friendships...
is if they are real and to what extent they actually are...I used to correspond with somebody and chat with this person over 2 years and the person totally changed her attitude towards me...i browsed to this person's my space account by coincidence ( didn't know he had one at first) and discovered that he had played a full comedy to me.
I can only talk for myself: i am no different from the person i am on the net in real life...i don't like faking anything.
Well, i had the chance to meet a blogger from blogit, Voyager and this guy was as nice as on the net in real life...some ppl are real, some others are phonies i guess...

Ha, you all hear much more about what is happening
in my real life than my "real friends." This way I talk to you all at once, which is much less time consuming...I am not a big phone person...and emails tend to be short. Hey, you are all really lucky and you don't even realize it!

Interesting questions Symphony ;)
You sound like the perfect friend; I too must have my alone zone. I've wondered about bloggers being the same in flesh as they appear here also. There are many (including your good self) whose words hold such poignant honesty and reality that I feel completely doubt free about their hearts/intentions. Then there are others...lol. Yes, I am what I seem...I think, hehe...There are things from my past unshared though.

Cool site you've got, I like the changes you've made. My journal is pretty much who I am, the good, the bad and the ugly. Yep, it is good to be able to turn off the computer and walk away for a while. There's all kinds of relationships, casual chats, deep heart-to-hearts, and people who are practical and helpful, but don't "get" your inner self and innermost secret side.
If you knew your favorite bloggers in person you might find all kinds of different people. I mean, you might have a friend who is great at helping you move or helping you smile when you feel down or you've had it up to here with the kids, another friend who's great at making you laugh with sill jokes but who gets uncomfortable when the subject gets too serious. Another friends knows just when to shut up and leave you alone, but their presence makes you feel safer and more peaceful. Then again, you might one who might find some who just annoy the hell out of you. I guess that's life. The risk is lower here to let down our guards, but even so I find that some people can be intentionally or unintentionally clueless.
On-line friends are great, but, imho, can't totally replace the in-the-flesh ones. I hope you find those kinds, too, even after your trust has been hurt.
