It seems the current running joke I hear anymore is if you want to quit having sex, get married! I think it also has to do with how much we love ourselves. If we love ourselves, we know ourselves pretty well, inside and out. It is getting your partner to know himself and to love himself that is the hard part IMO.

Whoa...that's a new one on me--sex and spirituality...
I do agree, though, that the married sex thing is beyond true here, but I think it's as much a function of how much we really love each other and like making it great as it is the opportunity to do it more often because we live together.

You are right. I think that the deep need to connect is there. I have had such few sexual encounters (partners) but the ones I do have ARE very satisfying and do fulfill that deep need. When my husband was or is non-responsive, I feel hollow and unfulfilled. I know with Jay I was missing the details that were described in the Song of Solomon:deep physical intimacy is achieved through privacy, unhurried time, complimenting each other, affectionate touching, having special places together, fragrances, intimate talk and the safety of total commitment. This affection creates the atmosphere of intimacy; sex is just the event. Mike was a natural at all those with me. Not so with his wife. He's having to learn them. Same here. Mike fulfilled that deep need so easily for me.

I think there is a deep need to connect with others, which can be enhanced through sexual contact. But, looking for it through sex is to leave oneself devoid and empty.
