The problem with BSE, though, is that if it gets into 'our' found supply,
our brains turn to mush. Screening procedures have got to get better. It's a scary thing. And I'm not jumping at the next worst thing coming, but I'd like to see some tougher testing going on. Hell, look at the way they're handling the avian flu...

I think this issue has become a tad "overdone", though ...
I mean, if one thing doesn't kill you, (eventually) something else will, anyway.

That's probably a wise decision
Beef really isn't safe. If you really can't go "cold turkey", you might research whether organic beef would be safer.
