Most people probably don't even
realize all of the crap that is hiding on their computers. Even well maintained and cleaned computers usually have little tidbits of crap that are able to avoid dection and thus removal. The hackers and spyware producers are always ahead of those who try to counteract them.

I use SpyBot and HijackThis! Two potent apps in the fight against spyware
And they are both free!
