KookaLives,
I've shopped at thrift stores for years, and I've come to recognize what they are and aren't good for, imho. One thing I won't find is that latest color or style, and a lot, like the for-profit Value Village (Savers elsewhere, I think) are overpriced at $7 for a used shirt. I'm become way more selective because I've "recycled" so much used stuff that it became ridiculous.
But, still, I love the thrill of the hunt. You're right, they are well worth the visit, I just have to control that urge that says, "buy it" even when I know I don't need another blouse or whatnot that's not right.

You can find things at a second hand store that aren't available anywhere else....if you're lucky.

I've just found two really great vintage clothes shops...
but I still can't quite got over the fact that a stranger wore those clothes, and you have no idea who they were, how hygienic they were, and what they did in them.

i love junk stores
really miss that place on the corner where the guy had all sorts of stuff out -- that's where i bought the popcorn popper we used camping.
now it's replaced by just another clean retail store.
it's fun bfrowsing and you do get bargains.
the sad thing is people are "cleaning them out" and putting such "nice" things in their place.
we'll have to browse when i come out.
