Gubby - I've always contended that the real value of the Jesus story
was frittered away and rendered useless by mankind's desire to manufacture a God. The crucifixion could have been a lesson in the shortcomings of human nature, of how fear, greed and the lust for power have always tainted mankind's perception but what do we get instead? A ridiculous whopper of some guy ascending into heaven and promising to come back from the dead.

Oh yeah,

and while we're at it, what exactly is so special about this guy dying? He took three days, some people took weeks to die. Not to mention the spanish inquisition, a little while later... I expect some of those "heretics" wished they could be Jesus...

Of course, skilled priests spoil our fun by suggesting that christ's suffering was infinate, as if that makes any sense.

Oh yeah, and seeing as sinners spend eternity in hell their suffering is infinate too, so i think you'd need a Jesus each to buy them out?

Xeno-x - I've heard that contention from others
All you can say to someone that is able to reconcile a notion that has them being in such a select little group is lucky them. The notion itself contradicts their own definition of a traditional God being all merciful, all loving and all powerful but that doesn't seem to matter with some people. It's tough cookies for everyone else of any other culture or religion. I often wonder if some of these people can count, if they have any idea at all how many countless billions of people are damned by their reasoning?

gomey
if you read justsouno
it's fewer people than that
she said that Catholics and others who have not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior aren't going to heaven either.
it's just a chosen few.
i'm not attacking her -- i'm just repeating what she said.

Xeno-x - There are a couple reasons why I am not getting comments

defending the messiah.

First off, the people you mention have both blocked me from commenting on their posts and I have made it clear that I am not much interested in hearing the opinions of those who will not hear the opinions of others. Secondly, what defense could anyone possibly offer other than it is their wish for Jesus to truly be the messiah? Jesus Christ being the  messiah of only 1/3 of the planet is a difficult fact to refute.

i notice justsouno and Maine-iac Preacher and other believers
aren't defending their Messiah here.
you'd think if they believed in him like they say, they would.
