Corbin,
I knew it would come to this. You've been kidnapped to keep the mouth trapped. More of this ignorant drivel unless you reappear soon. BB

JanesOpinion...
...and what would those costs be, exactly?

Corbin,
I like it...I think it is those working illegally in the U.S. that you are trying to keep out of the country. For our protection and benefit we must find ways to do this. This proposal sounds like a good one if only a beginning. By the way, for the uninformed...Those who are here working legally with a valid green card are required to pay taxes. True there are loopholes in the system, but I thought they'd want to know...Thanks as always for sharing!

I tend to see both sides of the story.

Damon makes some valid points as well, although he fails to mention the exorbitant COSTS to American society that are accrued thanks to the presence of illegals.  Anyway, at the very least, if the person lining up to wire money back to Mexico cannot prove his or her status as a legal resident, then a hefty surcharge or tax needs to be added.  After all, like the rest of you have mentioned, why should that money be sent back to Mexico tax free????

Not Much...
...thought has gone into this one, has it?

1. Yes, illegal immigrants may send most of their money back to Mexico, but what do they do with the rest of it? Spend it in the US economy!

2. Yes, illegal immigrants are illegal, but they are, for the most part, working. In other words, they are an input to...the US economy!

3. Illegal immigrants get the jobs they get because  those jobs are largely dirty, unpleasant, with rough conditions, perhaps unsociable hours, and very badly paid. If this measure succeeds in getting rid of them, who's going to do that work?

In 2001, a mid-range estimate put undocumented immigrant worker numbers at 7.8 million, of which 4.5 million were Mexican, working mainly in unskilled jobs - construction, meatpacking,  production line work, waitering and so on. You might  find some interesting stats here.

Bottom line - US economic output would drop by an estimated $1 trillion without the input of legal and illegal workers. Kick them out, the economy declines, PLUS you have to find 8 million native-born Americans to do all those shit jobs.

Like I said, not very well thought through.

Corbin great post. I didn't know anything about this proposal.
Kallogian is the finest holligan I have seen in these parts lately. That is a great idea, will he succeed?

I like the proposal and hope they follow through with it

Even in upstate New York we have many illegals working in slate quarrys and they no sooner send them back to Mexico and a month later they are back working in the area again. Some law enforcement say they find a way to Canada and then enter NY through Vermonts border, so imagine how easy it is for any terrorist to get in.

Sorry to rattle on.

This sounds like a good and fair proposal to me.
The President might not like it, but I don't think anyone can argue it's not the fairest way to slow down the money heading back home from illegals in the country. We should try it.
