One more for Glenn:
Do you realize how much your comment makes you sound like Yosemite Sam losing his temper with Bugs Bunny? "I really hate You! If I ever come across you and recognize your presence, be prepared to "slap leather"! And when the smoke clears, only one of us will be standing!" All that's missing is a long, drawn-out. "O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O!!" as you begin firing your six-shooter at everything in sight.

Thanks for commenting!

Flightpath, good point. How often ,really, do we here the good we do being celebrated?

Corbin, interesting way to put that. I'd disagree to a point -  liberals never succumb if they think they are right. The power of disempowerment, perhaps?

Glenn, two words: Grow up. Good definition of racism, but threats like that have no place here. If you are so bereft of intelligent commentary that you have to resort to threats, you will be bounced. I know you can do better than that.

Arley, excellent comment. I think you hit it right on the head about left and right balancing out. The problem I see is the extremism of the left these days. If it takes some extremist stuff from my perspective to balance it, so be it. But I would dispute the "diluted venom"; I try, admittedly not always with perfect results, to limit myself to a potent mixture of documentable facts, common-sense opinions, sarcasm and satire.

kingmi, were you around for Carter's national malaise? If you weren't, Bubba Clinton's habit of apologizing for everything under the sun as enough of that.

Now if we contract a national malaise
At last coming to believe that we are bad as a people, guilty of distantly vague crimes that we deserve to be punished for, then I believe that we will expect the national leadres to lead us out of that type of depression via the one cure we know about for depression, grief. Grief and education.

WofL, I was commenting about this on Sunday.
A friendly blogger was saying how horrible the war was. I think that ifit were left up to us we might just self destruct. But we hire a tough to uphold our national security, even if it means getting really tough from far away.

Giving your blog some thought. . .
Writer, I like the way you've presented your concerns about the long term effect of brutal self deprecation on the national consciousness, and I think you may be right, the ultimate effect could be some type of masochistic idea that we deserve punishment and should not fight back. I would find the development of this mentality very disturbing, if not outright distressing, but as a centrist with some leftward leanings (I'm very concerned about the status of the environment), I still believe we should not blindly follow without asking questions. While I that know you have not stated we should follow blindly, I would not bother to even chat with you if you did, I have some concern about the possibility of diluted venom that seems to underlie some of your comments. We as a nation, or any group from any nation can only steer a straight course into the future by making the small corrections to the left or right that average out over time. If we reflect back to the sixties and seventies we see a time when we moved too far to the left and it cost us dearly for a number of years, then we began to move move to the right and came back to a promising path, but now we need to ensure we don't move to far to the right, and to make sure we stay centered, we need to ask tough questions and demand honest answers. I wish you peace and understanding. Arley White

WriterofLight,
I really hate You! If I ever come across you and recognize your presence, be prepared to "slap leather"! And when the smoke clears, only one of us will be standing! Is this the same William F. Buckley who claimed: "Blacks are intellectually inferior to Whites"? What ever happend to him after that comment! Mr. Buckley lost credibility long before he became a spokesman for the ideology of fear and hatred! Do you really think that America is being governed as a democracy?? Racism by it's nature is "criminal hypocrisy"! You must pretend to be, something you are not!

Writer

The defining characteristic of liberals is a willingness to so succumb.............

The way they frame this is to ask: Why does the world hate us? How can we avoid this anti-American hatred so pervasive in the world?

It must be because of what we do...what we have accomplished.....

Once again a great post.
These words hit the nail on the head in describing liberals in our great land.

...and while they sing the Blues...the endless list of ways that American individuals, groups and government help others all around the world, all the time...continue to go unsung.
