Until I started using the drum music, I wasn't able to enter an altered state either - without drugs, I mean. But once I started using the music, everything changed.

I don't know if I am any more grounded - I think it is the norseman in me coming out!

I can't help but be envious here
as I've tried to attain this without the use of drugs but have failed. I've traveled to other plains of existence through the use of psychadelic drugs and have enjoyed every minute of it. Maybe I ought to try that drum music?

Good Post My Friend....

You are more grounded than I am.  Even when I'm awake, I have trouble seeing the same dreams twice......

Interesting. What sort of things do you learn
about yourself?

Thanks. I got away from journeying for several years, but now am drawn to it again. It will be interesting to see what comes of it.

I think there was intent for your second attention to be alerted. That's what pushed you to begin to look for ways to improve. You started with your body, and so the message come through to you through that experience. And I love your last paragraph - the journey being a "shared vision of embracing the mystery of eternal life." Great stuff!

shamanic journeying
I've been doing it for the last three and a half years, and have spent most of that time in an altered state.

For me, it's been entirely solo - no tape, no drums, no guide, save the archetypes that embody my experiences.

It began for me without intent, at least without the intent of having my second attention alerted.

My intent was to lose weight, and look really cute in jeans again, and to that end, I started exercising at home.

By myself.

I quickly discoverd that my body was the key that unlocked the doors of perception in my mind - an in an instant, I was taken completely, into realms of heaven and hell.

No matter what faith I look at, be it Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Paganism, I see the same thing.

A Shamanic journey.

A shared vision of embracing the mystery of eternal life - with each walk sharing in similar enactments of the mystery, as well as enactments that are unique to the culture, and era each that each of  these masters lived in.
