Kooka, glad you have such a generous friend

willing to help you in this way.

And xenox, you asked what God has done for anyone?  Well, for starters (speaking selfishly), he has given me some wonderful friends, for whom I am so very grateful.  As well, he has given me an awesome family.

Xenox, you and Kooka make an interesting point.

It is my understanding that the Church -- the "body of Christ" -- is or should be the friend of whom you and Kooka speak.  We cannot SEE God, but we can SEE our friends.

Just this week I called a close friend because I was desperate for a listening ear.  I have a rather tough job, and have to make some significant decisions and was afraid I had badly blown it.  So I called my nurse practitioner friend, who is also a Christian, and talked with her for almost an hour.  She was willing to spend this time with me because we're friends, but also because she is part of the "body of Christ."  Christ is no longer on earth, but she is and could reach out to me in same way that Christ would if he were on earth and sitting in my living room.

But whether you believe what I've said about the body of Christ or not (likely NOT -- that's OK), I would agree that friends are wonderful, we need them, and life would be sadly empty without them.

And regarding the Body of Christ, does the Church act in this fashion often enough?  No.  Sadly, no.  We could do a much better job; however, as Christ was the "friend of sinners" so should we be the friend of sinners.  (And before you get on your high horse about my use of the word "sinners" keep in mind that all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory.  I as a Christian am no better than anyone else, I am a sinner; we have ALL missed the mark of imperfection.)

god is a one way street for sure

wanting all from you

but what does he give you?

somebody want to say what god has given them?

kooka_lives -- but God isn't very handy with computers
Mind you, that may be because computers weren't around back when God was invented.

M.P.O.
Then I would have to say you have not found any truly good friends yet.
I have many friends who as far as I am concnered, I owe a lot, but they have told me to just not worry about it.
I hope to someday pay them back, but they are not asking for it and I really doubt they ever will.

I'm not touching the "God thing" ... however, as far as:

"Good friends are always there for you and ready to help whenever needed and never expect anything at all in return."

That has certainly not been my experience.  Everyone wants something in return ... at least, eventually.

"Every time a friend succeeds, a little piece of me dies."

I have to agree with you.... true friends are hard to come by. I put
a very high value on those friendships.   I haven't found that kind of relationship with God yet.  Maybe someday I will, but right now, I'd thank my friends and family before anyone else...
