Thank you all for the comments.....there were so many interesting insights shared, I think this must be one of those subjects that we've all thought about whether we realize it or not.  I appreciate your sharing with me.  I've written another post on it and may do another yet...at least at some time.....and would love to see others' experiences in this area.  I saw Quirky has one that was really interesting.  Thanks again, and I'm sorry I'm so late in responding, but I really wanted to see what people had to say.

Just like people have mates, we all have "soul" mates...I enjoyed your
post and how you brought a lot of good questions to the surface.  I think we are multi-faceted people and therefore I'm not stuck on the notion of only having one soulmate.  I think the word romanticizes the idea, and personally, I love the idea of love, romance, and connection, but I'm also a pragmatist and know that if soulmates were to connect and get married, they'd have to work at it like anyone else in a marriage situation.  If soulmates remain email friends and companions, the beauty and idea of what might be always remains alive and well like a fairytale to continue to feed the notion produced in Hollywood, novels and among bloggers like me, LOL

Viva soulmates!!

Good Kris,
Is it a traditional belief that we each have one soul mate? I can tell you that I had long thought if such a thing were possible, indeed, we had but a single such companion...I used to hear that everyone had a double somewhere in the world...having entered into several emotionally and spiritually deep relationships, I have come to share in the idea of there being more than one soul mate.
Think of the Love once so alive between two, now held between as deep friendship rich with a passionate beginning undenied...the connection sustains itself beyond expectations, even when the parties experience relocation...the connection remains within the Heart...
The feeling of another's energies embracing your own ...
Whether there be but a single such entity or multiple connections, it is a personal belief of mine that we each do have a soul mate.
When you feel it within yourself, that is the moment you begin to believe...

Kris, the questions you ask herein
are important, more important perhaps to some than others; nonetheless, the whole of your insights I want to address at length and shall later this evening, when the noise of children and the anticipation of others fiding their way home for the night, has removed from the arena of free thought...take care, Dear Lady.

Krisles.....This is a tough call to make....Hmmmm...
Another great post that leaves you wondering and hoping. I have always thought of men you love as being soulmates, always hoping that He is the one, only later to learn you got screwed over in some way, haha. How many years that you know him before considering him a soulmate? Or maybe he is indeed the guy you couldn't tame or the man you almost let into your life. I like to think my parents were soulmates to each other. When my dad died, my mom told me she felt her arm was severed. And she would never love again. And she hasn't...

What a trip I was logging off but I thought I'd see if you were around and there you were! Sister soul mates?

I tend to concur with Bud Oracle's comment...

My boyfriend and I are very close and share a great deal in common ... however, I honestly can't imagine ever considering him or anyone else a "soulmate".

I think it depends on the definition of soul mate.   Everyone seems to describe that differently.

I had this soul mate once, but she turned out to be

A phony. I was duped bec I was empty and searching for something. I had truly strong feelings for her...even romantic feelings. They faded in the light of day and truth.

Have you found one?

Good post! Soul Mates are artificial constructs by marketers wishing
to promote the lies of modern life, Monogamy, God, and True love!

I think the concept of soulmates is a myth that ranks up there with happily ever after. It's great for poets and philosophers and musicians and artists and all who wish to speak of love in the grandest sense without mentioning the petty details.
