Surely our Liberal  friends  don't believe that the Sunnis attacked the holy site..........what would they gain by it........repression, death, a purge....yep, it makes sense to me.......The foreign terrorists see their first strategy was failing......so they're desperate....They're supposed to be strict  Muslims and they destroy one of the holiest of shrines........they're dogs and should be hunted down and treated as such......the cerfew has helped reduce the violence.....the main clerics are actually asking for calm........

Jack Flash, We can only know what's in the media, those of us who don't
travel.  Thanks for the nice comment!

katray, I guess the only thing we disagree about is that both sides want US
out.  I think they know better.

Sorry I missed that in your post Kingmi

The part about boots on the ground seeing a different reality than what military leadership is reporting. And you're right; this can't be about politics - too many lives at stake for either side to play the blame game. And spinning reality from any quarter is not going to stave it off for long. My point is the danger is growing by leaps and bounds for our troops - the clerics are directing the masses and they both want us out - religious and anti American fury both are flaming. I'm hoping and praying this spreading fire dies down quickly and Iraq truly embarks on the path to democracy and stability - as opposed to the oppressive theocratic direction that has been obvious for quite some time. Time, as always, will tell.

Kingmi,
I agree with you, but I see here the same thing that I see in every politically oriented post.  Everyone comes here, spews their opinion, and departs agreeing with themselves.  If discussing political opinion agrees with you, I will certaninly defend your right to agree or differ.  For myself, I vote my opinion.  Everything else seems a waste of time, especially when so many have so much shabby information to support opinions that they formed long before even seeing even that.

katray, Oh OK I'll take the word of ABC News over the boots on the ground
We know they are in dire danger.  There in the middle of a war zone.  My point is that the religious fervor, which has been enflamed all around the world there, is pretty deep!  Like rabid.

Kingmi, respectfully, it's far deeper than that!

Sunnis and Shiites both have fury against the Americans. Those there in Iraq are seeing evidence of this and are shocked and dazed by it. They are in dire danger. But don't just take the words of troops on the ground:

"The U.S. role in this is especially complicated. A senior military official told ABC News that in the coming days, U.S. forces will essentially "sit back and watch" Iraq security forces try to quell any violence, fearing that the U.S. presence would inflame the situation."

Glad You Are Going To Stay..
I thought you were going to quit!!  Everyone has a right to their opinions.  I have been attacked, yet I am not letting anyone run me off for no one's opinion supersedes the other!!

Kingmi, I've received an e mail from a young person who is not far

from Baghdad. He is a Bush supporter and felt we needed to "stay the course" also. Because if we left, civil war would most likely break out. Hmm, okaay...In this last, very recent communication, he speaks of U.S. troops pulling way back, keeping a very low profile in the last couple of days - because the fury of the protesting masses is directed not only at the differing religious factions, but also heavily against the Americans. He is anxious and more than a little confused. Against the Americans! - Get it?
