Sass,

You must have lived close to the areas where I was raised.  Oregon, Northern California, and Nevada are areas I know well.  I was mostly in Northern California, 60 miles NW of Reno, right next to the Oregon border.  That's intersting.

And language is much stranger than I realized before coming to Blogit.  The regionalisms, just within the U.S., are really amazing.

The words I remember would have gotten my mouth washed out
I guess it depends on where you are raised. Different slang for different areas. I was raised in Delaware, Oregon, California and Nevada. I didn't learn about strange slang until moving to Pennsylvania as an adult. These people actually make up their own words.

Sass,
I thought I had used a new word, then ms. bradrock came by and said she remembered it.  That made me think about it, and I'm quite sure I used it in grade school.  I must have remembered it without remembering it.

I learned a new word today
Urpheads, wow! That is a new one. I will have to try it out on someone.

Pat,
I'm not sure what you would find interesting.  I'll look at your blogs and see if I can figure it out.

ms bradrock,

I hadn't thought about where I had heard that word, but I'm sure it was the same kind of thing.  I think it was when I was in about the third or fourth grade.  My mother was always pretty strict about bad words too.  In fact, so was my dad.  It had to be something in his East Texas, Bible Belt upbringing, but if you said ''doggone'' around him, he would get so mad that you took off running before he ''took his belt off.''

I suppose I should shape up.  I think I've lost some of my childhood training.

Jack,
You do bring back memories with this one. I haven't heard or said the word "urphead" since I was young. That was one of the few "bad" words my mom would actually allow us to use...Thanks for the memories and I'd have to say your post is pretty much right on!
