oh,and after I left her that note, I've never heard back from her, although she threatened turn me over to management. I told her to go ahead, because we were pretty sure that all things on balance, management were probably sick of hearing her whinge. I've never heard from mgt. either.

Symphony,
I had a similar situation with my neighbor, who left notes because she could hear my stereo, which I only play rarely in the daytime and in the early eve. At first, I didn't even know where it came from because she didn't sign it, but I worked it out by process of elimination it was my downstaris neighbor, as the one I share an actual wall with swore she couldn't hear an ything.
So, I finally got fed up and left her a not that she had an unreasonable expectation of quiet during the daytime in an apartment. I'm not sure if you go on for hours, or what the quiet laws are like In England, but here in Seattle, the usual quiet hours are betwen 10pm and 8am, so anything not during those hours, in my opinion are reasonable. Well, almost anything. Good luck with this.

I like Dave's solution!

I think it's better to reach them by kindness though...let them know when you'll be practicing and tell them why you have to do it...and then...good luck!

A peaceful resolution is necessary. Don't let anyone remove a rude letter and use that as evidence if they decide to report to the nearest police station.

A sign on the nearest lamppost will do: "Dearest Neighbour, we will be having our next karaoke practice tomorrow at half-past three. Please come round and join us for a beer and we can talk about how to resolve the situation."
Then all you do is get him pissed and he'll be singing along with you before you know it.
Easy - then when other neighbours complain about the increased noise, you operate the same tactic with them.
Hope it works..
