Agreed...I also think the Bush/Mid-East Money
link is getting a bit too obvious.

Corbin,
I really do not understand this one, but since I needed to read a bit of wisdom on the matter...I stopped by! Good posts as usual. Thanks for sharing!

Corbin

I am plagiarizing myself for the second time, in that I am giving you the same comment I gave to sarooster as well as to your previous post, but it's gettin'  late in the day for me...and the scotch is taking effect...

I think we have two central questions connected to this issue. First there is what I would want to call the 'technical' one, i.e. the question as to whether or not the transfer of port operations from a British to a UAE company would increase or lower the current (admittedly very low) level of security. For reasons I have outlined in my own post, I think there is a high potential for increased danger to the ports. I am quite willing to be persuaded otherwise,  but I have heard not one single argument that convincingly demonstrates that I am wrong.

The second question is the 'political' one. It has become clear that this issue has gripped Americans, has aroused a good deal of emotion, and is bringing together people from the whole range of the political spectrum in opposition. In fact, it is becoming a 'peg' issue, one on which other issues are being 'hung'. That can prove calamitous for the fortunes of the Republican party in the next election. If I were an American, I would be a Republican, but I would despair at the political ineptitude being displayed here by the President.

Corbin,
I think about like you on this. The deal may be a good one economically, but a terrible one on the public relations front. I have a post about what I think about the liberals and the deal. They should love the fact that we are "reaching out" to the Arabs. They don't care about that. They just want to bash the President at any chance they get.

Corbin Dallas,
The only reason this is an issue is: "Arabs are Terrorist"! Remember? No! Wait these are the "good" Arabs! My daddy works for them! They got plenty of money and if they start making noise we can always "Iraq em"! News Flash!! Ole W did not know the deal was being made! No matter his daddy and Cheney did! And you thik you are "geting smart with the rest of us"???

Corbin - I love this post!
I think there are probably many issues such as foreign ownership of portions of our ports which will continue to become issues once they are brought into the limelight. While I've long argued for more security measures in the ports, I frankly hadn't even considered that inspecting containers might be in the hands of anyone other than security personnel, let alone foreign companies. - IMHO the best part of this issue is the involvement of the American people, and our demands for more information and review.

Corbin, I am glad and was surprised to see that the American people
were alert and wanted to discuss this over just yelling at the President or at a party because this is happening on his or their watch.
