maj, rugs are no help when the dog HERSELF is covered with dirt
and she steps carefully through the doggie door, not dislodging any hanging leaves, etc, until she tiptoes to the studio area where I sit and then shakes herself or lies down on the sofa or wrestles with Autumn or rubs against me, disloding it all and then going outside for more.....
She rolls in dirt, digs and lies in the holes, slithers under the piles of dead bamboo and tree brancehs etc. that I have just cut, approaches anything with a hose in it and wallows like a hog....I slam shut the doggie door when sprinklers are on and leave her outside to her joys...
I just met another artist and he has two dogs (new pound puppies) and we are to go walking ours together, hmmmmm......He does the dry river bed and lets his free.....I will try it, but think that Autumn may hit the road for the REZ still and Baby will just hit the road, but maybe his young boys will keep her attention.....about eight months old, they are.
DOGZ !!

We put a big old bathroom chenille throw rug by the dog door
and it helps the muddy pawprint issue a lot...as evidenced by how dirty it gets when the rug's down for washing or rolled back to let me sit for supper.
Get a couple 2nd hand and put some "no-skid" mat under them so they don't kill you.

I chewed out Pete and Fletch for getting garbage.
Pete was hurt! Wouldn't eat for an hour, went outside by himself. I finally jollied him back.
You don't have dogs, you have a posse!

whacky, I was yapped at a lot before the doggie door and the no bark
collar for Baby. Life is better that way, but the house is now full of dirt and I am missing many things which I later find chewed in the back garden. Sigh...

majroj, Pete sounds like Autumn. Friends came by with 3 Xmas stockings
That they had bought and forgotten to deliver here. This was last week.
Makeda wagged her tail off and chewed on her fluffy toy for hours, gutting it with glee. Baby played with her ball and then took Keda's gutted toy and took the rubber chew toy that Autumn was guarding but doing nothing with.
Autumn attacked Baby, but never did touch the toy herself, just guarded it, knowing that it was hers.
There were about fifteen toys in each stocking, so we had dog fights and animal stuffing everywhere for days. Autumn's things were saved for her, I would lock her in my bedroom, putting her toys on the bed next to her while she napped. She looked at them, napped again, but loved having them with her, you could tell.
Pete is probably like that. Too serious an early puppyhood for play.
Autumn only loosens up with me alone in the bedroom. I took her to the dog park alone and that was fun, but Baby beats her up when she returns.
Autumn knows that she's second dog, but Baby respects no hierarchy periodically and tries to tell Autumn that it just ain't so. Autumn bites her face off to remind her, but seven minutes later, Baby is testing her postion again. She disrespects Keda, but Keda and I both bite her when she does, to make a strong point about senior power.
OMYGOD, Keda is still going and going and going....we walk around the block, she stays on my bed mostly, looking out the window or sleeping, but gets up and wags her tail and joins the crowd when crowd dog things are happening. I am so grateful for these many extra months, going on a year now, I think....

fourcats, I communicate with Baby by screaming, NO, PUT THAT DOWN,
GIVE ME THAT, Come Back here, are you listening to me? OKAY, no dog biscuits for Baby. Dog biscuits for Makeda, dog biscuits for Autumn, but NO NO NO dog biscuits for Baby.
Then she brings me the stolen object and sits for a biscuit and I'm sure that Makeda and Autumn have told her to steal things, to get more biscuits for them all. I'm getting too old for puppies. Only ancient pets from now on....

anthony1wiley coyo, no time to read you, but I actually think about you
quite often as I paint or drive around town. I sometimes think, when wiley gets here, he'd like to see this or that....as though you were already planning a visit to my town....

jacenta, my Baby also. Goes nuts in company, pees and simpers and
jumps all over the place or grabs something precious and drags it outside in her enthusiasm.

easy to see
who the alpha is in your house - all hail makeda!
side note to prof-sumakel33: any dog at any age can be taught almost anything. it's all about how you communicate.

First time I read your blog, and loved it. Made me think of our cat Pluche, who considered our house his house.

Pets.
Dear
benzinha : Dogs and pets are just companion or guard dogs. I guess we cannot teach them everything. ... regards..
