I'm surprised none of you nailed me on the seeming similarity . . .

. . . .between Bush's and Carter's statements on lack of threat to security. There is a difference. Bush was soeaking solely of the sale. Carter was speaking, perhaps unintentionally andf perhaps not, of the lack of any threat here or eslewhere.

Damon, thanks for the link . Given the source of the Halliburton recommendation, I seriously doubt your theory has any substance to it. But thanks for telling everyone of Vice President Cheney's generosity!

kingmi, don't "misunderestimate" the role of Democrat dependence on labor support, particularly from the longshoremen.

Writer of light
Thanks for the detailed explanation.  My favorite comment on this was David Letterman last night. He summarized the plan and in regards to Bush's comments that it will not impact security he commented "Kind of makes you begin to doubt Bush's judgement, doesn't it?"

For Once...
...we almost agree!

Check out some under-reported facts here.

Fascinating to see Halliburton put forward as an alternative. Do you think it has anything at all all to do with this?

WofL, I thank you for the clarity and reason. Since when has anyone paid
attention to what stocks the oil barons have purchased?  Evidently, politics is at work here, where some politicians think they can gain popular support for their candidacies and causes by playing the race card.

Writer of Light, I join you in hoping that there is some degree
sanity in this move, but I don't think there is!
