Corbin,
I am plagiarizing myself, in that I am giving you the same comment I gave to sarooster, but it's gettin' late in the day for me...
I think we have two central questions connected to this issue. First there is what I would want to call the 'technical' one, i.e. the question as to whether or not the transfer of port operations from a British to a UAE company would increase or lower the current (admittedly very low) level of security. For reasons I have outlined in my own post, I think there is a high potential for increased danger to the ports. I am quite willing to be persuaded otherwise, but I have heard not one single argument that convincingly demonstrates that I am wrong.
The second question is the 'political' one. It has become clear that this issue has gripped Americans, has aroused a good deal of emotion, and is bringing together people from the whole range of the political spectrum in opposition. In fact, it is becoming a 'peg' issue, one on which other issues are being 'hung'. That can prove calamitous for the fortunes of the Republican in the next election. If I were an American, I would be a Republican, but I would despair at the political ineptitude being displayed here by the President.

IMHO...I believe this contract needs to be bought out...then put out some RFP's to finish the duration, not just turned over because of this sale. While I have nothing against the UAM, I really don't want them or any other company that is from the Middle East, especially at this time in our history. I know companies get bought out and along with that goes current contracts, but for us` at this time, this contract needs to be bought out...........just my 2 cents..

Corbin,
I wonder who is really responsible for this, I assume your President doesn't have good advisers...Why does Carter support Bush? It isn't typical of American political scene.

Corbin serious question
When they say the Bush administration is pushing this just who beside Bush is behind this? With so much opposition I was just wondering who was supporting it and why?
