Now, Glenn, you know better than that!

Neither I nor anyone else can make you happy. (I know, President Bush could make you happy by resigning!  ). You have to find it within yourself.

And, you know, maybe that's what makes the difference in the end between Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and liberals. Just maybe Republicans and conservatives are more inclined to engage in the pursuit of happiness within themselves rather than depend on others for their happiness.

FW, I can't address your financial status . . .
. . . but if you're predicating happiness on tax breaks, then you're well on the way to happiness. I surely was happy to see the break I got on last year's taxes.   And I'm only lower middle class!

Maybe you need to strop that razor, Professor!
That was only one citation. Others cite church attendance, family status, age, gender,  health, employement, and on and on. Each is simple, but none was meant to be taken alone.

WriterofLight,
I want the same person or persons paying your freight to take mine! Make me happy! For some strange reason money helps fend off the alligators! That PEW bunch is another "happy" group of, dare I say, White folk!

If I was rich and the government kept giving me tax breaks ...
I'd be happier than a pig in ^&$%!

I think money can make us happy, but there are many other things

that do also. I think this poll is about right. Being positive seems to be a little more conservative thing than a liberal thing. It's hard to measure though. I am not much on polls either, but I can buy into the general gist of what this polls tells us. I am not wealthy by any stretch but I am happy, upbeat, and positive.

Occam's Razor

Occam's razor states that usually, the simplest answer is best. The simple answer from the Pew poll?

"Of course, there's a more obvious explanation for the Republicans' happiness edge. Republicans tend to have more money than Democrats, and -- as we've already discovered -- people who have more money tend to be happier."

This is a direct quote from the poll you cited.

Writer....
Great read...this will be interesting.  Will the comments prove the finding of the poll?
