Nana,

Thank you for the comment.  I didn't get back to read your response, but you will see me around regularly anyway.  Your work is a pleasure to read.

I thought you probably had disks at both ends.  I think nearly all of the heavier street bikes are that way now.  They are so much better than drums that it's unbelievable.  Disks and dirt don't mix well, so dirt bikes most often have drums.  They work fine there, but for heavy, heat generating braking, they just don't cut the mustard.  Don't touch a disk after heavy braking to see how hot they get.  The end of your finger will get cooked.

Jack
I have a correction- my bike has disk brakes both front and back!   Duh.

MPO,

Is Joe posting stuff right now?  He used to read mine fairly regularly, and I read his.  He's interesting to read, but I haven't seen him lately.  I left a few comments with him.  Either I pissed him off or he's on a break.

As far as a picture, it does generate interest in some cases.  In others it can have the opposite effect.  People have a hangup on physical appearance.  It can be in blogging, job interviews, work places, street interrogations, and grocery stores.  Anywhere that there is social interaction.

I have noticed a definite tendancy for bloggers to flock around people who have the appropriate physical appearance.  I don't fault anyone who posts a picture, but I have told bloggers who were wondering whether to post one exactly what the situation was.  If you're a hot babe or a hunk, post a picture, otherwise don't.  I'm not Unca Ugly, but to me personally, I'm offended by the superficiality of the issue.  I think it does you, MPO, good, so go ahead and do it.  For myself, the right picture would help, the wrong picture wouldn't.  I haven't bothered to get what I consider to be a decent picture, partly because it's a pain in the ass, and partly because it offends me.  But please don't take what offends to me to be something that I think should offend you.

I was just listing possible reasons for my popularity...

the Joseph refers to "Joe Love" who asked me (privately) "why I felt I had to post my photo to generate interest".

Oh and, also, let's be honest...

it's a really good blog, too.

Not only is it highly educational (one of the few blogs that can actually make you a more interesting person just from having read it) but "The Life Blog" has something else in it's favor, as well.

I mean, anyone could post a bunch of facts ... the way it is written, however, is not so easy to mirror.

MPO,
Now you have me wondering:

Oh and, one other thing (sorry for rambling on) ... Joseph did not want me to post my photo (which I was hesitant to do) and actually got angry at me when I did.  (This from someone who hands out "Blog It" awards!)

Did I miss something there?  Maybe I said something I forgot, or ???
Dont worry about rambling on.  You're interesting to talk to.

Can't really say whether that's a contributing factor, Jack...

Whatever the reason (I'm quasi-popular), I know it isn't because:

~ I ask questions in my posts (never have)

~ I use the word "blogger" in my titles (never have)

~ I mention other bloggers in my posts (one time)

~ I post several times a day (only average 1 per day)

I do rank fairly high in comments, but much of that is due to answering (plus reciprocating) each person who comments on my blog.

Once again though, this is not a knock on anyone else ... for instance, I really like kingmi (who's "guilty" of all of the above) ... it's just that I've tried to remain as "pure" a blogger as humanly possible.  At least, as I define it.

Oh and, one other thing (sorry for rambling on) ... Joseph did not want me to post my photo (which I was hesitant to do) and actually got angry at me when I did.  (This from someone who hands out "Blog It" awards!)

MP,
I was just looking at the new comments display.  I can see why you are getting a bunch of readers.  You had comments everywhere.  That really does work.  I've seen it done many times with considerable success.       <<----flower guard detachment

MPO,

You do leave good comments.  They reflect some thought.

Actually, I think part of it might be that I have a group of secret admirers who follow me around and descend upon anyone with whom I have any contact.  You have become famous as a result of my groupies.  I only hope that we don't get accosted by the paparazzi, or reporters from Entertainment Tonight.  And if Geraldo Rivera comes around, I'm kicking him out of town personally.

I've made quite a few bloggers famous.  I won't mention their names.  They would say I was really full of crap and get too huffy to talk to.

It's a little surprising to me too, Jack...

that I have done this well.  I had moderate success in the past, but without 3 of my 4 closest Blog It friends (from before) here presently ... I would not have guessed I would be receiving this sort of attention.

I do think I leave pretty good comments though ... they certainly aren't generic anyway.

P.S. I do hope there isn't any other reason behind my (minor) popularity.

tiger,

I think you're right about making ''click calls.''  It does work well.  An eye catching nickname seems to help too.  You have that.  Clicking around seems to be the quickest technique.

The trouble I have with clickabouts is that it's hard to strike a balance.  Write too much, and you don't have time for clickabouts.  Click around too much, and you don't have time to write.  My recent posting binge works pretty well, but you can't ignore commenters and people you already know.

And patience.  I sometimes don't have enough of that.

Sometimes I think Blogit is driving me crazy.  And I don't earn enough to pay the psychiatrist bills.

I used to read your blogs pretty regularly.  I'll get back by soon.

MPO,
Well, I guess I'll have to come see what you did.  I don't want to miss anything ''titillating.''  That seems to be the real crowd drawing type of material.  Of course, you draw a pretty good crowd in any case.  It must be your brilliant wit. (ya think?)  Or maybe it's just that you are the girl who's got everything.

I understand your frustration. I used to be among the higher ranked bloggers here, and my one blog has now sat for 10 hours with not so much as a click. Truly a fall from grace. The best way to get readers though is to leave as many comments on as many blogs as you can and just be patient.

Oh my God!

I just went through the exact same thought process ... except I actually went ahead and deleted my post (boring stuff about deer ticks) and replaced it with something much more "titillating".

How coincidental!
