Go to Krisles Embraces Her ADDAdd a commentGo to COLLECTIONS...........THINGS

I'm the same way about my letters.  It is funny how people can be so different about things....what they're sentimental about, etc.  My mom is almost psycho about the sentiment she attaches to "things" - I can't get her to throw away my father's old lake shoes! It drives me crazy and he would be getting mad at her at this point....I mean, he's not in those things and it's just ridiculous....but she seems them and remembers all the times she watched him walk into the water wearing them.... So, I try to remember that and grit my teeth and find another storage place for all this stuff!  Michele, however, is already worried about the ulcer she is sure she is getting from stressing over what to do with my mother's collection, and my collection....when it all comes to her and she can't bear to part with any of it!!!

Hey, Krisles...I hate to throw away letters written to me....
For instance, my mom told me just the other day, that she wanted to toss away cards and letters my dad had given to her. I was stunned. She said, "Well, what if I die one of these days? These were written to me, not for anyone else." But that is her choice. I am different. If I died tomorrow, I don't care where those letters and journals might end up. It's my legacy, however corny it might appear, but I can't bear to throw away wriiten words from people close to me. Good post and a topic that one maybe doesn't think about enough.

Do you go through it very often?  I've got a huge wooden chest at the end of our bed in KC that is crammed to the top full of every card and paper memento from the last however many years...programs from the Symphony, concert tickets, birthday cards, anniversary cards, etc......and then there's the indoor landfill some folks call a basement..... But, pain that it is, I've gotten lost in reverie for hours the few times I've wandered down and gotten lost in a time capsule....I've always found something I'm so glad I saved....
