What are these adults thinking anyway?
I have a daughter that will be 16 very soon, and nobody over the age of 17 better touch her! I talk with my kids and explain the craziness of our world in a very open and honest setting. I do not believe that any adult should even think about sex with a child.

Great comments, and I have been thinking since I posted this, sure, her married her, but wouldn't the stand up thing to do have been (A) use birth control (B)not have sex with a student.

great point PF
I was thinking about how the teenage boys who have the affair with the teacher are often written up as kind of "lucky, dude!" -- you know, "man, i'm makin' it with my teacher, hahahah!" But of course the women who enter these affairs are "unstable" and get thrown in the slammer for a long time, as you rightly point out.

When an older FEMALE teacher did this to a student-
They put her in jail for 7 years...There's still a double standard in this country.
If people see a 50 year old WOMAN with a 30 year old man, they get their noses out of joint, make crude comments, etc.
If people see a 50 year old MAN with a 30 yr old woman, they just smile and nod...most don't even pay it any mind at all!!!!! Is that fair????

there are many such stories nowadays
probably has always been an issue -- and yes there are stories of gender reversal -- and that is an interesting point of how it gets covered -- when it's a male teacher with a young girl she's a victim but no one thinks the male student who has an affair with his female teacher is a victim --
the teacher is in a position of authority and it is that projection that the students are attracted to. Plus the teacher might be paying more attention to them than the student's family is. But yes, the teacher has to stay on that line. He was foolish for doing what he did. He is paying for it, though perhaps not as harshly as he should.
The age thing is not so much an issue here as the relationship -- teacher -to-student. In ancient times marriages were arranged and often females younger than 15 were betrothed to men in their thirties (keep in mind of course that in ancient times human lifespan was much shorter). It's hard to know when any one person is "old enough" to "consent." But the problem here is that relationship that makes things unequal.

Personally I don't get it.
I have never had any of those kind of inappropriate feelings for any student. They are childrem; they are my students.

stupid man, dumb decisions, no self control button
As a teacher, I can't be careful enough. I always keep my door open. I do not allow any student to be alone in my room. Teachers must be proactive, and prevent the situation ahead of time. Once that snowball of desire gets rolling, who could stop it? Prevention.....

this is a tough one...
yes, he has broken the trust between teacher and student but now they will be married and raise a family. I hope the relationship works out but at the same time, can't understand the circumstances putting these two together

This story surprises me Food...
Usually, they guy gets a huge sentence and the girl acts as a victim, so I guess things are getting better, huh? I don't know if there is a good answer when this happens, I guess I gauge most of these things by looking at my children and thinking about what I would want to happen if it were them.
Have a great day! Angel
