Thank you BrightIrish.  I managed to get a plate of soup, but after that it was the dishes.  I still smell of bleach.

rafika
Perhaps it's just Canada, rafika, because I can't remember any of this action in Scotland.

Taps
It's like tat in our church, Taps, and being a perfect gentleman, I am always giving way to the ladies until Ell accidentally on purpose, stumbles into me and forces me forward.

Pat
Thanks, Pat_B.   I've just been writing about line ups in NYC when we where visiting last year, and the different types of people who jump queues, from old couples who pretend to be dotty to young women with titillating boobs.  It seems to be an art form.

This post was too funny!  I hope you enjoyed yourself and found a way to get out of doing the dishes!  Cheers

Church?
There seems to be an underlying text here about more action taking place in church than I ever remember.

I remember a few pushy queues in church especially the ones that wound around down the stairs from the sanctuary to the basement fellowship hall.   Once you got in there, you couldn't get out again no matter who was behind you.

Your post reminds me of a great scene in a Woody Allen movie
where  Woody and his date are standing in line to get into a movie and he raves on and on about what he's read about the film and how he hates  line-stander critics who don't have a clue..  Standing in line, people bumping up on a crowded bus, people in church where certain decorum is expected -- all great potentials for fun.  It's great to read your stuff again...:)pat

Azur
It is sheer hell, Azur.  I will be using the anecdote somewhere, sometime.

I was the soul of discretion, malcolm, but there's always next week.

And some people think it's all about soup and sandwiches. Must be tough in that line when you can't move forward so as not to push people in front. Very funny anecdotes for your next social comedy or sitcom
