Reminds me of a homily last month in which father reminded us
that, "Jesus could be anyone around you." Last week, as my youngest daughter and I sat at a local ice cream shop sharing a cup of milk, a homeless man walked in with his suitcase and ordered a hot meal. Now, I'd seen him around town for the last few months wheeling his little suitcase with the sleeping bag on the outside. My first instinct was to move my daughter and myself to a different table--and away from the homeless man. Then I remembered the homily. Boy, am I glad I did. I couldn't get over how the man kept looking on sweetly at us--as if we sparked some long-lost memory. We said good bye to him as we left, and I could tell he was surprised.
Different tale than yours, but similiarities, I think. You never can never judge others by appearances. And you never know when Jesus is right next to you...
