Great sharing!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful occasion. I find this is true not only about the women's movement, but also about the civil rights movement and more. I was teaching 9th grade about 15 years ago and the pupils in my class had no idea who Malcom and Martin were, aspired to be drug pushers "to make more money than God," and had no idea what the real world was about outside of MTV. I took them on field trips to museums, corporations, and more. It was a revelation not only for them, but for me, that our hard won liberties could so easily be lost in one generation of ignorance.

I refer you to the polemicist, Patrick Henry.
Wasn't he the one who published the quote that the tree of Liberty needs be watered on occasion with the blood of patriots? (I know that works for veteran's and GI's benefits...withers away until someone starts shooting Marines, then the votes are there).
Or was that Charleton Heston? (Loved his supporting role in "Bowling for Columbine").
I might be a libertarian, except for too many of my fellow sapients that would be like handng a six year old a six-shooter.
Come to think of it, probably a bad idea for me too.

Maj, your statement runs through my mind, every day
as I see our rights being chipped away by the people in power. The democrats are also to blame in this.

ginnieb, you are not alone.
Feelings of isolation are what I think is driving a lot for the religious movement in this country today. People joing churches and go to thos MEGA churches perhaps no so much for the religion, just to connect with other people. What distrurbs me most about the younger women I know is that they tend not to vote, regardless of their political leanings.

"Rights" must be continually re-learned and refended.
(I think your post wins the "Best Use Of Adjectives in 2006" category, and it's not even March yet!).

Wow...what a great read this was Cynthia!
We have certainly come a long way haven't we? What I like about the whole 'new world' is that women have choices now, it's just still sad that many still don't use these choices and you still see the young girls pining for a husband or a father for the child they didn't need to become impregnated with in the first place. Your evening sounded wonderful...how amazing to have like-minded educated women who can make a difference in the world, all gathered in one room. Makes me realize how isolated I am, living in a small town...I'd love to have been there! Thanks for an excellent read Cynthia!
